Supporting Excellent Science Teaching for Georgia

    District 1 Director: Lisa Benson

Hello Northwest Georgia GSTA members!  My name is Lisa Benson and if we don't know each other already then I hope that will change soon.
I'm super excited to be your new District 1 Director for GSTA (May 2023-2025).

A little bit about myself: born and raised in the Metro Atlanta area, I've lived and worked in several areas of the state (a special shout out to my friends in Athens, GA) and even taught in Alabama for several years. For the last decade-plus, however, my family has called a farm in the lovely valleys of Chattooga County our home.

I am the former Science Dept. Chair of Chattooga HS and my teaching awards/honors include past turns as the Chattooga County Teacher of the Year, Chattooga HS Teacher of the Year, and STAR Teacher.  I'm a graduate of Tucker High School, Georgia Southern College, and The University of Georgia -- Go Dawgs!  I have traveled extensively across the globe and called GA, AL, and FL home at one point or another, making many lasting friendships along the way.  Fun fact: in my 23 years of working in education, I have taught in some capacity at every grade level K-graduate school!

In addition to being your newly elected District 1 GSTA Director, I am currently employed as the Science member of the Chattooga County School District's "Success Team."  In my role as the Chattooga County Science Instructional Specialist, I support curriculum and instruction for all K-12 science teachers in our school district -- it's an amazing opportunity and I truly love my job.  Working with teachers and students throughout the county who are passionate about science is a dream come true.

Now, a little more about you!  How can I help you?  How can I help your science program and/or school?  When can I come meet you and talk to your science teachers about joining GSTA and all that we have to offer?  Please feel free to reach out to me -- introduce yourself and let me know what GSTA can do for you.

Thank you very much and I look forward to hearing from you.
