Hello District 12! My name is Brittney Denier Cantrell. Originally, I never imagined working in education. I pursued an alternative certification and a post-baccalaureate program at the insistence of a professor during grad school. I planned to teach for just a year before starting my PhD, but five minutes in a high school biology classroom, I fell in love with teaching.
Since then, my passion has been providing precollegiate STEM opportunities to promote interest and matriculation through STEM degree programs at the university level. I have served as a teacher, department chair, instructional coach, mentor, advisor, university instructor and supervisor, and master teacher. Currently, I am the Secondary Science Specialist for Forsyth County Schools.
I lead with passion and support academic achievement and excellence for all students. I champion my teachers and work tirelessly to offer differentiated STEM opportunities, resources, and support. I also have strong relationships with industry professionals and academia across the state, providing professional learning, workshops, internships, and other opportunities—all in the spirit of making science active and engaging.
Every day, I ask, "What are we doing today to ensure our students can think, act, and communicate like scientists and be prepared for the jobs of today and tomorrow?" As the District 12 Director, I aim to expand our network, provide ongoing support and opportunities, and develop a pipeline for science leadership development. Follow me on X @DrBrittCantrell.
I look forward to learning with and from you!
